career-focused?

So my biggest ambition these days is to go back to school, specifically an advertising school where I can build a portfolio and study copywriting and probably advertising art direction. I love advertising and fear that the market is as volatile as everyone says it is and that you spend the majority of your career getting fired. Hmph. The only thing I've ever really wanted to be is some type of writer, an actual fiction writer, a poet, a book cover copywriter, a critic (whether it's film or restaurants or books), etc. My biggest strengths in my life have always been English and Reading (yeah we're getting high school level hea!). Sometimes I am very jealous of those with lofty aspirations and dreams that span oceans, those who say, hey, the odds are against me but why the hell not? Most of the people I know in my field or in those closely related (journalism, broadcasting, public relations) are unemployed or are not working in these fields at all. Of course Louisiana being one big black hole in the U.S.'s job market could definitely attribute to this fact. *shrugs* I want to be something, someone that I can be proud of, I wish that I had someone to share those aspirations with, but so be it, the cheese stands alone.
